Level 1: Model basics Exercise 3 of 45 Free

Cost as a share of revenue

A financial modeling exercise from Modeldrill. Solve it with a live spreadsheet grid in your browser, with Fill right and Fill down, and it is checked the moment you submit.

The task

Cost of goods sold runs at the percentage of revenue in B2. Fill row 6 with the cost for each year: write B6, then fill right to F6.

What this exercise teaches

With =B5*$B$2 the revenue reference walks along the row and the percentage stays fixed. Without the lock, C6 would multiply by C2, which is empty, and return zero.

A hint if you get stuck

Revenue changes column by column, the percentage does not. Which of the two needs dollar signs?
