Level 2: Income statement and schedules Exercise 11 of 45 Pro

EBITDA and EBITDA margin

A financial modeling exercise from Modeldrill. Solve it with a live spreadsheet grid in your browser, with Fill right and Fill down, and it is checked the moment you submit.

The task

Revenue, cost of goods sold and operating expenses are set up. Fill EBITDA in row 9 (revenue less both cost lines) and EBITDA margin in row 10.

What this exercise teaches

EBITDA margin is a quick read on operating efficiency. Because each year divides by its own revenue, margin moves only when costs grow at a different pace than sales.

A hint if you get stuck

EBITDA is earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, so here it is revenue less the two cost lines above it.
